May 25 - Walking a country loop from Kinghorn

He said:
A cloudy day that will turn to rain later, so we decided to get our walk in early, and also it was short.
The walking trails here are not always well marked, so good map reading skills were needed.  These trails also have very few other people compared to where we have been in the Channel Islands, we might have seen one other person on the trail.

Our brief sunny time in Scotland is over- more like the Scotland we know! Gray skies and threatening rain.

The Kinghorn rescue boat team was practicing outside our window - ready to put out to help swimmers and/or sailors in distress.

Today, we took a short walk through town, and then the countryside, to Kinghorn Loch and the Craigencalt Farm.

A little path confusion near the Kinghorn Primary School, but Kinghorn resident - Keith Murray (returning home after buying his morning paper on the High Street), walked a while with us to put us on the right path. Friendly and a great sense of humor.

As we walked, we passed working farms, and also the ruins of farms that didn’t make it. These are spread throughout all countrysides we walk through - especially in Ireland (famine cottages), rural Wales and Scotland.
We also passed a large, old farm with a field full of outdated farm equipment. Kind of a junk yard for everything the farm didn’t use anymore. What else can they do with it?
We enjoyed a tea and coffee and scone at the Craigencalt Farm Cafe. So small and so... country-ish. A wonderful break from our walk.

The Kinghorn Loch has some noisy geese families and a model sailboat club, racing their remote-controlled sailboats around numbered bouts. (The Club, not the geese.)

Rain began in earnest, so we walked back to our snug home - Providence House.

Yesterday I had stopped at the local butcher and picked up some lamb loin chops. We cooked them up tonight with fresh veg and some rice and had a delicious, fresh supper.

Watching Miss Marple and a Country Walking Show on the Telly.
So happy.

Total Mileage:
3.5 miles (short and sweet!)

  1. Keith Murray!? Isn't that the name of Auntie Doris's nephew? Or did he have a different last name?
